In today’s world being tech-savvy is an advantage. Our lives now revolve in this big “Online Society” from online shopping, online classes, interviews, gatherings and even working online now is a trend.
But how can you join these working online trends if you are not a Techie?
Well, that’s somehow become my concern too…
“Being a mom demands countless sacrifices, even personal ones. Yet, for stay-at-home parents, the digital world offers boundless opportunities to thrive and grow.”
I decided to take a break from my corporate life 5 years ago when I had my first son. I resigned from my usual 8:30pm to 5:30pm job as a Sales Engineer way back in 2019 to give full-time motherly care to my son. And who knows that after a year, a pandemic strikes and suddenly turns the world into a pause. The pandemic strengthened the boom of this whole online trend. Working remotely became rampant as it is how the corporate world can cope with the pandemic. As we survived the pandemic, working online still continues to be on trend.
Now that I think I’m ready again to dive into this working mom era, as my son is already going to school (Thank God!), how can I embrace the new trend of working online if I feel that I’m somehow lacking experience in the online world due to my big employment gap?
Well, I believe that there is always room for learning new things for those who want to learn. Being not a techie person does not mean that you cannot try to work online as most of the people do right now. We just have to have that “I can try” and “I can do” attitude.
- Better ask than Never. It is important to always seek help from those who already have the experience. And thus, it’s time to brush off that “I’m shy thinking” and start asking those people who already have the mastery in working online.
- Researching Helps. Well, I guess every question can now be answered by Google (Thank you!). You can find similar stories or blogs that you can read on how to elevate yourself into the tech world. Also, Youtube! Youtube has many videos on how to work online, meant for beginners, and I somehow find it easier to understand because someone is explaining it to you, not just reading the article.
- Revamp that Resume. My resume was stuck on my desktop folder for 5 years. I had to update it and make it more comprehensive and eye-catching. There are plenty of resume creating websites, some are free, while others require a subscription which can be helpful for updates. Just follow my points 1 and 2 if you need more details. 🙂
- Time to make a Cover Letter. Just like writing resumes, there are plenty of “How to Write Cover Letter” articles that can guide you on writing an appealing cover letter that stands out. Thanks to my tech-savvy sister for sharing how she wrote hers. I told you, my point number 1 really works. Resume Done. Cover Letter in. Great!
- Time to Research for that Legit Website. A website where to apply to Online Jobs. When I say legit, yes, because there are a lot of scam job postings out there. Asking experienced peeps really helps. Point no. 1 in again..
And yes…not done yet but just the start of the whole journey we will embark on this online job application. You just have to be patient. Patient in searching, filling up and even customizing your resume and cover letter if that job posting that you are interested in requires more detailed information from you.
And now, who’s that non-techie person inside of you? Nahh…unless you are not open to learning new things, then that will stop you from exploring the world of working online.
Wishing you and me to get to land that “dream online job” plus staying in the comfort of your home while looking after your family at the same time.
Good read! Thanks for the tips!
